Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your role within Kytun?

Hi, my name is Ian Goodwin, my role within Kytun is Internal Sales Representative. My role involves making sales calls to existing and new customers and creating good relationships for repeat sales. I also create and process orders, check stock levels and complete stock counts.

What inspired you to pursue a career within the construction industry?

I had worked in customer service for 12 years, progressing to store manager. I wanted a change of career and I thought sales would be perfect, as I could use my existing skills in this role.

Could you share some of the key responsibilities or tasks that you manage in your current position?

My key responsibilities are to manage current relationships with customers and to build new relationships while providing great customer service. I do this through processing orders and organising deliveries to suit our customers and communication with them throughout the process.

What aspect of your work do you find most fulfilling or rewarding?

The biggest satisfaction is when you deliver for your customers and their needs. Receiving positive feedback from satisfied customers is something I have always enjoyed in all my roles.

From your perspective, what skills or qualities are crucial for success in your position?

I think the most crucial skills in my role are organisation and verbal and written communication. I believe that good communication is vital to keep long lasting relationships with our customers.

Can you highlight any notable achievements or milestones from your career that you’re particularly proud of?

I am very proud of taking the change of career from a retail store manager to a sales rep in my stride by using previous skills learnt in customer service and transferring them to my new role. Also, learning to use all the different platforms that is required to complete my role, from processing orders and making calls with clients.

If someone were interested in pursuing a career similar to yours, what advice would you offer them?

My advice would be if you like a fast-paced environment and giving great customer service daily then this would be a good route to go down in your career. I have learnt a lot about roofing product in a short space of time due to the training I received and there is an opportunity to work hard and progress with your career.

Outside of work, what interests or hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?

My main interest outside of work is travelling. I have been inter-railing round Europe for 4 weeks and most recently spent 4 months in South East Asia before taking my current role with Kytun. I also love football so go to watch as many live games as I can with my dad and brother.

Looking ahead, how do you see your role evolving, and what are your long-term goals?

I think my role has already evolved since first starting with the company over 6 months ago. My long-term goals would be to continue to grow in my current role and progress within  Kytun as the company continues to grow.
