Reece didn’t originally expect to work with aluminium.

“I was more interested in steel,” he says.

“But aluminium was different. It’s lighter, more flexible and every job brings a different challenge.”

Six years later, that challenge is exactly what keeps Reece’s work interesting.

“It all starts as a flat sheet,” Reece explains. “Then you’re cutting, bending and shaping it into something that actually works on a building.”

It’s skilled, precise work, where every measurement, fold and finish has to be right first time. Because by the time it reaches site, installers need components that fit properly, perform as expected and are ready to go.

“You need to be able to read drawings properly,” says Reece, “You’ve got to measure everything accurately.”

What advice would Reece give someone considering a career in manufacturing?

“If you enjoy making things and seeing a finished result at the end of the day, you’ll enjoy it.”

Outside the Factory

When he’s not in Kytun, Reece keeps busy with family, a bit of farming and… more fabrication??

“I do a bit of welding at home. Just small projects.”

There you go: some people like to switch off, others just keep on building.

On a final note, Reece says he’s the best tin whistle player in Kytun.
