Bespoke AluSwift Commercial Aluminium System

Kytun was proud to work alongside Dorrian Construction on the development of the new Scoil Colmcille School in Letterkenny.

Delivered through an 18-month phased programme, this was a substantial commercial project requiring close coordination, bespoke manufacturing and carefully scheduled installation.

 

The Project Brief

The brief was to design, manufacture and install a complete, high-performing aluminium envelope and rainwater solution capable of withstanding the exposed weather conditions experienced in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

The system also had to complement the architect’s vision for the new school while meeting the performance requirements of the developer and wider project team.

Our scope of work included:

  • Bespoke aluminium cappings
  • Extensive fascia and soffit systems
  • Aluminium Rainwater Gutters
  • Commercial aluminium downpipes
  • Purpose-made aluminium components for complex areas of the building
  • Full on-site installation

The project incorporated one of the largest continuous runs of aluminium capping and fascia that Kytun has delivered on a commercial development.

 

Key Challenges

One of the main challenges was working within Dorrian Construction’s phased programme. Our team was required on site on specific dates, meaning design, measurement, manufacturing and delivery all had to be coordinated precisely.

As different areas of the building became available, we had to manufacture and install the required products in line with the contractor’s programme. Delays at any stage could have affected other trades and the overall construction schedule.

The scale and design of the building also created several technically demanding areas. Standard products were not always suitable, so our team had to develop bespoke solutions that aligned with the building design and provided the necessary long-term protection.

Every component had to meet a high standard of performance, accuracy and finish while integrating correctly with the surrounding building envelope.

 

Our Solution

Kytun supplied a complete AluSwift aluminium package, managing the process from initial design development through to bespoke manufacturing and final installation.

Our technical, manufacturing and installation teams worked closely with Dorrian Construction, the architect and the wider project team throughout the 18-month programme.

This collaborative approach allowed us to understand the requirements of each area, identify potential challenges and develop practical solutions before installation commenced.

All bespoke components were manufactured to suit the building’s exact dimensions and architectural details. Careful planning and communication ensured that materials were manufactured and delivered in line with the phased construction programme.

Our experienced installation team then completed the works on site, ensuring the aluminium cappings, fascia, soffit, gutters and downpipes formed a coordinated and high-performing system.

The Result

The completed system provides Scoil Colmcille School with a durable, low-maintenance aluminium weather & drainage solution designed to perform in a highly exposed location.

The project demonstrates Kytun’s ability to manage large and complex commercial packages, combining technical design, bespoke manufacturing, programme coordination and specialist installation within one complete service.

We are extremely proud to have contributed to the development of this important new educational facility in Letterkenny. The scale of the aluminium package, combined with the demands of the phased programme, made it a significant project for our team and an excellent example of what can be achieved through close collaboration from design to completion.
